“Geology (from the Ancient Greek γῆ, gē ("earth") and -λoγία, -logia, ("study of", "discourse") is an earth science concerned with the solid Earth, the rocks of which it is composed, and the processes by which they change over time.

Geology describes the structure of the Earth on and beneath its surface, and the processes that have shaped that structure. It also provides tools to determine the relative and absolute ages of rocks found in a given location, and also to describe the histories of those rocks. By combining these tools, geologists are able to chronicle the geological history of the Earth as a whole and the evolutionary history of life.

Sorrel Bay Fine Jewellery, a brand forged from a life long love affair with gemstones and the age old attraction to gold.

Sorrel Bay offers only one-of-a-kind treasures, each piece individually honouring the hand cut, hand polished, unique and unusual gemstones that Marie has been collecting for many years.

Always drawn to the geological circumstances that create the unique formations of individual gemstones; the now arid deserts that once were ocean sized lakes of Australia that form mesmerising Boulder Opals, the naturally occurring Iron Ore growths trapped within the forming layers of agate over thousands of years in Northern Indian river beds, the Sea Foam Tourmalines of Afghanistan formed in the veins of molten magma rich in the magical combination of the earths elements.

Driven by this fascination of geology, an education in the arts and an obsession with anthropology and ancient societies, the pieces created in her studio are full of the magic of a combination of these subjects. Gems are sourced responsibly with an emphasis on mine to market and Marie’s knowledge on the source of her stones is always imperative to the designs.

There are stories in every piece of her work, blurring the boundaries of precious and semi precious, and mastering the combination of a unique and refreshing blend of gemstone choices. Textured gold, hammered links, bold settings, rugged textures all pulled together with a dusting of diamonds, Sorrel Bay offers true modern day treasures that honour the geology that formed them.
